Internal partitions along with the framing can be done in several options as mentioned below:

FRAMING FOR PARTIONS can be either done in

  • GI metal frame
  • Salwood frame

In both cases the framing has to be done in a grid of 600mmx600mm c/c ( vertically and horizontally). The distance between the vertcal members towards the wall should not exceed 500mm. The members should be fixed to each other with appropriate screws to ensure strength and stability.Similarly the end members has to be fixed to structural slabs properly and in no case it can be fixed to any adjoining false ceiling/ ceiling frame. Holes for conduits need to be provided which can be either prefabricated in case of GI frame or has to be done on site in case of wooden framing. In case of GI framing additional salwood members have to be provided at suitable locations to facilitate fixing of doors, glass partitions etc.

  • Single gypsum sheet on both sides - where strength is not the criteria and partition is only meant for visual privacy. It can be finally finished with paint.
  • Double layer of gypsum on both sides - where medium strength is required ie if the partitions are used for visual privacy and more sound resistance compared to single layergypsum partition. In such case the partitions cannot be used to take lateral load or for fixing of plasma TV or storages. It can be finally finished in paint.
  • One layer of plywood and one layer of gypsum on both sides : where the purpose of partition is for visual privacy, sound resistance and to take lateral load or for hanging plasma tv or wall cabinets, etc.It can be finally finished in paint.
  • One layer of plywood and laminate/ veneer on both sides : where the final finishing is not paint.

The gap between the skin or covering layer on either side is generally filled with glasswool or rockwool insulation. In all the above cases the sheets of plywood or gypsum should be properly screwed in a staggered manner to avoid any continous joints. Where the top layer is gypsum proper care has to be taken to seal the joints with jointing tape and sealing compound as per manufacturers instruction.
