Gypsum false ceiling is commonly used in residential as well as commercial projects as it gives a neat monolithic surface ready to apply paint. Also it is used as a variety of designs and patterns can be worked out in addition to the indirect lighting bands. Execution of gypsum false ceiling involves following steps:

  • Marking the level of false ceiling on the walls and checking the horizontality of the same.
  • Fixing wall tracks or perimeter channels on the walls.
  • Fixing anchor fasteners into the slab to suspend rods or metal hangers at 1200mm c/c.
  • Suspension rods or metal hangers are then hanged or fixed  into the anchor fastners.
  • C channels are then fixed into the suspended rods or hangers. The distance between the C channels is taken as 1200mm c/c and is generally provided along the longer span of the room.
  • Furring channels are fixed perpendicular and into the C channels at a distance of 600mm c/c. Furring channels are generally placed along the shorter span of the room.
  • Gypsum sheets are then fixed from below with counter sunk screws into the furring channels with staggered joints.
  • The joints are then treated with jointing tape and compond as per the manufacturer's instruction.
